Jessie’s Girl?

It’s about 1:30 am
I’m W I D E awake
Listening to my neighbor’s boyfriend
Serenading her to 80’s tunes
Very loudly,
And quite badly.
I’d go over there and ask them to be quiet
If it weren’t for the fact that
I’m actually getting some kind of amusement
Out of listening to this random dude
Sing “Jessie’s Girl”
Off key and out of sync.

Small pleasures in life.
Gotta take them as they come.

So speaking of “Jessie’s Girl”
What a freakin’ rad song!
I mean,
Not only is it a testament to how good 80’s music is
But it’s a song that every guy can relate to
And I for one believe any song that uses the word “moot” in the lyrics
Deserves a Grammy, no questions asked.
I mean, c’mon…
Rick Springfield is a lyrical genius.

There is one thing though that bothers me about this song
And that’s the video for it.
Has anyone else seen it?
Here, check it…

kay, so the basic premise of the song and video
Is that poor Rick is all down and out
Because his buddy, Jessie
Is making the dirty time with a girl
That he has the hots for.
But what I can’t figure out is
What the hell does the girl see in the other dude?
I mean, hellooooooo… Rick Springfield
AKA; Dr. Noah Drake from General Hospital
(The originally McDreamy)
Wants to get in your knickers lady
And you pass him over for some dude in a gold leather blazer
Who spray paints a wall claiming you as his property!?
Something is clearly amiss here.
And then I have to ask myself
What the hell does Rick Springfield see in this girl?
I mean, dude is a rock star,
An actor,
Has hair that sparkles,
A narrow jaw line,
Killer dance moves,
Fashion sense… etc.
But yet, he’s somehow bummin’ and breaking mirrors
Over this random blonde girl.
It just doesn’t add up!
Or maybe I just need sleep!?

I feel so dirty when they start talkin’ cute
I wanna tell her that I love her
But the point is probably moot…
